Organizing committee of the conference

Flora and fauna, geoecology, biodiversity conservation, sustainable nature management, environmental pollution, formation of environmental culture, medical, biological and ecological problems, and ethnoecology of Southern Siberia have been discussed at the International Scientific Conference for Students and Young Scientists “Ecology of Southern Siberia and Bordering Areas” hosted by the Khakass State University on November 23rd—24th, 2016.

The conference was initiated and supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, Khakass State University, Siberian Federal University, Tuvan State University, Institute of Biophysics (Siberian Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences), and Sukachev Institute of Forest (Siberian Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences).

For the years of its existence, the conference has become one of the most anticipated scientific events in the Southern Siberia. Ten sections presented in the conference gathered students and young scientists from the Republic of Khakassia, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Tuva Republic, Republic of Buryatia, Irkutsk Oblast, Omsk Oblast, Tomsk Oblast, Tyumen Oblast, Novosibirsk Oblast, Kemerovo Oblast, and Zabaykalsky Krai.

As in previous conferences, the environmental pollution caused by human activity was one of the most popular topics. During the discussion, students, professors, and scientists defined perspectives of the presented research works, questioned their value, and planned their further development.

The Khakassky Reserve was represented by Makeeva Evgeniya (candidate of biological sciences and senior researcher) as a member of the jury in the “Flora, Vegetation and Plant Ecology of the Southern Siberia” section, and Viktoria Shurkina (candidate of biological sciences and deputy director for research) as co-chairman in the “Geoecological Studies of the Southern Siberia” section. Theses of the report presented by Kuchak Anna, the Khakassky Reserve’s junior researcher, will be published in a conference proceedings.
