Today, on July 25th, a training seminar for state inspectors held by the Association of Reserves and National Parks of Altai-Sayan Ecoregion opened in the Lake Itkul area of the Khakassky Reserve.

The event will take a form of a contest between state inspectors from the Khakassky, Katun, Azas, Kuznetsk Alatau, Sayano-Shushenskiy, Stolby, and Tigirekskiy nature reserves, and representatives of security departments from Shushensky Bor and Shorsky national parks, Ergaki Nature Park, and Directorate of Specially Protected Areas of the Krasnoyarsk Krai.

Igor Prokudin, the Khakassky Reserve’s deputy director for security, and Igor Gryazin, the executive director of the Association of Reserves and National Parks of Altai-Sayan Ecoregion, welcomed the participants on behalf of the organizers. The opening ceremony was also attended by Oleg Kosolapov, the head of the Federal Supervisory Natural Resources Management Service in Khakassia.

Gennadiy Kiselev, the head of the Sayano-Shushenskiy Nature Reserve, noted that the skills gained from such seminars help state inspectors in their everyday work, and this means better protection and, therefore, better preservation of rare and endangered species.

During the next three days, experts invited from various regions of Siberia will give a series of lectures for state inspectors. One of such lecturers is Artur Murzakhanov—a senior state inspector from Zapovednoe Podlemorye protected area (Zabaykalsky Krai). He will make a presentation on cooperation between state inspectors and mass media, and running a personal blog about work.

The fourth day—June 28th—is expected to be the most challenging: the state inspectors will collect all their strength and skills to show their best in professional skills and sports contests. The contests include target shooting, tug of war, orienteering, and “kures” (belt wrestling)—a new form of competition introduced this year.

Such training seminars take place every year since 2013 as part of nature conservation, scientific, and educational activities held by the Association of Reserves and National Parks of Altai-Sayan Ecoregion and Khakassky Reserve.
