In June, 2017, the Khakassky Reserve’s researchers came back from the expedition to Pozarym Wildlife Refuge supported by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and Business Molodost training company.

As the researchers were investigating new monitoring routes, they discovered habitats of Siberian ibex visited by the animals in winter 2016–2017, and had a chance to observe 17 ibexes grazing in the wild.

The population of Siberian ibex tends to increase in Pozarym, which followed after establishing a special protection regime in the area, and performing biotechnological and regular research activities. To continue monitoring the animals, new camera traps were installed in the key habitat areas of Siberian ibex.

As part of the summer expedition, the researchers studied the peculiarities of plant distribution in the highlands of Pozarym. They discovered new habitats of rare and endangered plants listed in the Red Data Book of the Republic of Khakassia—Juniperus sabina, Rhodiola algida, Packera heterophylla, and others. After processing the collected data, the researchers will be able to make a full list of highland flora of Pozarym Wildlife Refuge.

During the expedition, the researchers also specified locations for future monitoring posts, and defined places for information boards that will warn tourists about the protection regime.

Taking photos in Oglahty area

Taking photos in Oglahty area

Khakassky Reserve starts a photo project titled “Wild studio” and invites photographers to participate.

The main idea is to capture the beauty of protected nature and historical monuments in photographs.

The participants will be invited to the Oglahty area to take photographs which then will be reviewed by the jury. The winner will become an accredited photographer for the Oglahty area; other participants will receive certificates and will be invited for future events out of competition.

The Oglahty area is located in a picturesque place near the Yenisey River and attracts travellers by a complex of cultural and historical monuments. The landscapes look especially beautiful at sunset and sunrise.

Applications are accepted at t.zapovednik@gmail.com until July 10, 2017. An application must include your full name, date of birth, contact details, and two landscape photographs in the attachment.

For more information, contact the project coordinator Alexander Kartavtsev at +7(902)011-7454.
